Thanksgiving Holiday Poems

Holiday Poems PRAISE

A Thanksgiving Poem

By Paul Laurence Dunbar

In Dunbar’s holiday Thanksgiving poem, he lifts his words to the Father above and speaks of gratefulness. A grateful heart for all the Lord has given us and for all the future brings. He says to give praise and keep ourselves holy in the eyes of our Father.

A Thanksgiving Poem

Thou hast, with ever watchful eye,
Looked down on us with holy care,
And from thy storehouse in the sky
Hast scattered plenty everywhere.

Then lift we up our songs of praise
To thee, O Father, good and kind;
To thee we consecrate our days;
Be thine the temple of each mind.

With incense sweet our thanks ascend;
Before thy works our powers pall;
Though we should strive years without end,
We could not thank thee for them all.

Holiday Poems give thanks

Thanksgiving

By Ella Wheeler Wilcox

In Ella’s simple holiday Thanksgiving poem, she speaks of how we should give thanks all year long. On the holiday of Thanksgiving, we can carry on the chorus we have written all the days before and show gratefulness all year long.

Thanksgiving

We ought to make the moments notes
Of happy, glad Thanksgiving;
The hours and days a silent phrase
Of music we are living.
And so the theme should swell and grow
As weeks and months pass o’er us,
And rise sublime at this good time,
A grand Thanksgiving chorus.

Grateful Thanksgiving

By Laura Fuller

The Thanksgiving holiday brings together a love of families and friends. Everyone gathered around the table, laughter, and smiling even though the cold of winter is moving in. This holiday is a time to be thankful for all we have.

Grateful Thanksgiving

Fall days loom
in a winter sky
Amongst it all
Thanksgiving!
A blessed day of
family and friends
Full bellies content
A day to reflect
Grateful
for times past
for love and goodness
for the year ahead
we laugh and sing and
hug as we part
with a Grateful heart

A Thanksgiving Blessing

By Rick W. Cotton

A Thanksgiving Blessing is a beautiful holiday poem of warm hearts inside and out. The cold sneaks into the air around us, but the warmth of the holiday shows in our gratefulness.

A Thanksgiving Blessing

It’s cold outside, but it’s warm in my heart.
And the gray fall sky is His work of art.
Laden and low, quiet and still,
November is welcome, and my eyes drink their fill

Of brown-gray grass and red-orange leaves,
Of pavement winding through the strong, stately trees.
Down the hill, past the barn, past the gate, up the lane,
The house with bright candles in each window pane.

Now I step inside; oh, it’s warm! Oh, that smell!
Hot turkey roasting, potatoes done well!
Sweet, spicy cider, and warm winter wine
Cranberry sauce – Oh! – the flavors – divine!

The smiles and hugs are so warm and sweet.
In this cold gray November, a Thanksgiving treat.
I do love it all and am so thankful; yes,
For this lovely season…I am truly blessed.

Thanksgiving Forgiveness

By Laura Fuller

This holiday season, not all will be happy and warm. Many families have strong dynamics. But amid the trials, be thankful and show your generous heart to all around you. You can make a difference.

Thanksgiving Forgiveness

A day of love
friends
family
and drama
Give thanks
be grateful
and forgive.
A day of pain
restraint
refrain
and sadness.
Extend your heart
show your hand
Your warmth
kindness
and love
will be a reprieve
for the heart
of sorrow.

Christmas Holiday Poems

I heard the bells on Christmas Day

Christmas Bells

By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Here is an old familiar holiday poem by Longfellow. The bells ring out to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus on Christmas day.

Christmas Bells

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Santa is coming incredible delight

Eyes Of A Child

By Laura Fuller

Santa and Jesus, as seen through the eyes of a child, can be a lesson to all. In this holiday poem, it is brought to light that if we see Jesus through the eyes of a child with awe and wonder, we will have a fresh take on life. We can all learn so much through a child and the beauty they present to us.

Eyes Of A Child

Santa is coming incredible delight
faces alight with awe and wonder
eyes aglow with anticipation
Jesus is born, a miracle to behold
heads bow before the throne
Merge two Santa and Jesus
Santa giver of all good
from a child’s view
delight, wonder, anticipation
Jesus giver of all life
hearts full of glory and admiration
Salvation
ALL
through the eyes of a child

Ring Out, Wild Bells

by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Tennyson’s holiday poem reminds us of the life Jesus brought with his birth. He has washed away the old and ushered in the new. Not only new in our world but new to our hearts.

Ring Out, Wild Bells

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die…

Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.

Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

O Holy Night

By John Sullivan Dwight

The English version of the holiday poem “O Holy Night” took place in 1855 and has been a favorite on each Christmas since that date. A Savior was born on a night, so divine as the angels sing. So beautiful!

O Holy Night

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
‘Til He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine…

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,

Jesus And Christmas

By Laura Fuller

My express opinion is when the word Christmas rolls off our tongue; there so shall be the name of Jesus. Remember why we celebrate this Christmas and give thanks to our Lord God on high as you read this holiday poem.

Jesus And Christmas

A day of life
Jesus our world
forgiveness and hope
salvation and grace
dreams for the little ones
hope for the older
grace for the future
Jesus and Christmas
