Walk Free To Birth Your Dream

Four years ago I realized my passion is to write. I started writing poetry in high school in an English class. Back when I was in high school, this was a big part of the English course. Everyone had to write a poem. But I didn’t stop. My every waking moment at age 17 was writing. That is when I wasn’t dreaming about a boy. It wasn’t until forty years a little girl with a poem written to the photo of Walk Free To Birth Your Dreams.later I picked it back up and wrote this little piece realizing I could then walk free to birth my dream.

Survival

I believe God put it in my heart to write from a very early age. But most of my adult years were spent surviving and learning life. My need to survive and raise my kids became plagued with worry and fear.

In my survival, the worries, concerns, and the firm desire to protect myself covered up the urge to write. I had spent the better part of my life keeping myself safe from the abuse of my father and dysfunctional relationships.

Soul words

I was surprised when four years ago these words just tumbled out into a poem. I believe the words were stored away in my soul until it was the right time to put them to paper.

As these words tumbled out, I realized I am a poet. Is there a sincere desire to do something in your life that you have set aside for one reason or another? What has stopped you from fulfilling what you are meant to do? You too can walk free to birth your dream.

For me, it was the need to work through a life of abuse. As I became an adult and moved through life the violence as a child perpetrated my decisions to choose more abusive relationships. When I began writing again, I knew I was to reach the world with the words of encouragement and inspiration. I know there are many abused kids and adults out there who need to know they are not alone. You need to hear what I have to write. I am a survivor, and so are you.

Child Abuse

It is a very horrible infliction for someone else to harm a child for their gratification. And I can’t change the decisions of adults who choose to do this. The law and family services cannot change it either. The problem continues to grow.

The abuse of a child will change everything that was set for your life to be, but it cannot break your will or take away your gifts. My gift is to write, and for years the pain and downtrodden self-confidence tried to destroy me. It will try to do the same to you. But you are strong and will overcome it just as I did.

If you succumb to the sorrow and fears of the abuse pounded into you then you, are giving the abuser too much control over your life. That person hurt you once. Do Not let it happen for the rest of your life.

Remember that you did not choose harm, but instead, an adult or very sick person inflicted it on you. Adults make decisions to harm children. Children do not decide to be hurt. Many abusers want you to believe you caused it so they can keep you in their grips.

Pain of abuse can no longer harm you

The damage of your childhood cannot harm you or reach you today unless you give it power. An adult abusive relationship can no longer hurt you if you have left it behind. The harm and unforgiveness come from your mind once you are out of the situation. It rolls in with fear and doubt.

For me, it took many years of working through the horrors to believe I am free, gifted, and can accomplish my destiny. It has taken many years to build self-confidence and self-esteem strong enough to put words to paper and show the world.

I am destined to write to help youa lion face

That is why I am here for you. That is why I write the feelings and emotions down. I am destined through my experiences to help you overcome. I want to give you the strength to keep going. I want to let you know that you are no different than I am. And I have made it to high levels in my life. So can you! It is my desire for this to help you so you can accomplish your gift much earlier than I did. So you can become whole and touch the world with your love and talents.

Maybe you have a gift, or perhaps you are destined to stand tall for one or two individuals.  No matter what you are called to do I encourage you to work through the tough times and show who you are. You are a warrior. You are brave. You are courageous. No one can stop you except you. You can walk free to birth your dream.

Will you have failures in life? Yes, you will. Not because you have had a hard life but because that is how you learn. If you choose to learn from your setbacks, you will rise above the hatred that harmed you. You will set an example to those around you.

But most of all you can forgive yourself for with someone else tried to make you believe it was your fault. Now hold your head, my friend. You are no longer in the lion’s den. You are the lion.

  1. Thank you for sharing your experience, it is heart touching reading through your article, I had my share of child abuse and carried with me 30 years until I realized, the degree of conditioning that is negatively affecting my life, then I started working on it, I realized that going through the process of owning the pain, understanding it, how it is driving us, all the way to forgiving those who caused us harm, not only relief us from the pain, but also tell us a lot about selves, things we need to learn to become our true selves and shine, I believe every feeling of pain or sorrow we go through is a gift in disguise, we only need to own it, let it flow and see where is that going, what message it is carrying for us to become a better person.

    • Amer, I am so sorry you had to go through this but you are doing so well to face it and work through it. You are very brave and courageous. There are many who do not face it and suffer from the pain. They want to hang onto it. I am so proud of you for becoming healthy and sharing.

  2. Walk Free to birth your dream has really touched me deeply in a way that i see that there is more to life other than holding to the things of the past that was once done to us by adults, You are very right Laura to say children do not choose to be hurt so all we need to do is to learn to focus on the present and try nit to look at the things of the past. Like you say i really am a survivor. So how do you deal with such things when you always see those people that abused you in your child hood because you always flash back this when seeing them?

    • Oh my this is a very hard question to answer. I have 2 suggestions for you. #1 get some counseling to help cement the fact that you did not choose to be abused and find some kind of forgiveness for the abuser. #2 if that person is still treating you inferior and manipulating you then it is time to set some boundaries. A wonderful book that I found very helpful is Boundaries by Cloud and Towsned. If I can help in any other way please let me know.

Yes you are a survivor and only a victim if you choose to continue in that roll.

  3. Hello and thank you for this inspiring post Laura. This kind of sharing takes tremendous courage, and I applaud you for that. It is also really amazing how you’ve stayed on the right track, never giving up the pain opportunity to hold you back.

You also found your secret gift. This writing gift you discovered is what still keeps you motivated, up to this day. I can tell that from reading your articles. Child abuse is really touchy subject and I do not think we are giving it attention it should have.

Thank you once again for sharing your story with the world.

    • Thank you so much but I do not consider myself courageous. I just want to help others overcome what I have been so blessed to work through. Telling the world is liberating and frees us of the chains that bind us.

And yes I do love to write. It is a gift given to me and I want to share it with the world.

  4. Their Is nothing more hurting more demeaning than an abusive parents or relatives for that matter I read un article that was saying that the bigest  child abusers are the relatives you can imagine the traumatic experience that child  will grow up with, That those who are supposed to be gurdian are the worst  abusers .but with help of society these menace can be eradicated.

    • This is true that family or someone you know is the biggest abuser. I urge the abused to seek help, work through the pain, believe they are worthy and they did not cause this. Then the abused can grow and peruse the talents they are destined to do.

  5. Wow!! Laura! This is a most amazing and inspiring story!!

I used to write too, when I was a child, mainly poems, because stories were just too long for me to write. I had them in my head but did not really have the dedication to put them all down on paper. Poems were quicker to write down…

And then, a few months ago, I decided to sign up for a writing course, in French, my mother tongue. I truly enjoyed the beginning of the course, published a short story on KDP, and then I put it aside for other priorities… starting my blog… which is also a lot about writing…

I know I am going to follow that training again… it’s calling me… so when I found your blog post, I took it as a sign that this is more than just something I enjoy… this is a mission…

I really like it when you write “Maybe you have a gift, or perhaps you are destined to stand tall for one or two individuals.  No matter what you are called to do I encourage you to work through the tough times and show who you are. You are a warrior. You are brave. You are courageous. No one can stop you except you. You can walk free to birth your dream.”

Thanks again for sharing your inspiring experience and words with us. May you be blessed.

Wow this is really inspiring. Its obvious in this write-up that you are destined to do this. One thing I discover is that whatsoever one has passion for,he or she should continue doing it ,one must not allow failures or abuse to bring down one’s morale on what one is destined to do.I really love this post and I will strongly share this for people to get inspired.
